Bacterial population genomics and metabolism

Welcome to the Wyres lab website!

We investigate genetic and metabolic diversity of bacterial pathogens using computational approaches, including comparative genomics and metabolic modelling. We focus primarily on pathogens that cause infections in hospital settings, where antimicrobial (drug) resistance is increasing globally. Multi-drug resistant bacteria can be extremely difficult to treat, so there is an urgent need for novel control strategies.

Our work aims to inform enhanced genomic surveillance and infection control measures for priority multi-drug resistant bacteria, as well as other novel control strategies such as vaccines and phage therapies. Read more about our research here.
