Bacterial population genomics and metabolism

Welcome to the Wyres lab website

What we do

We investigate genetic and metabolic diversity of bacterial pathogens using computational approaches. We are primarily interested in Klebsiella species, in particular Klebsiella pneumoniae– a major cause of health-care associated infections world-wide. Multi-drug resistant K. pneumoniae are becoming increasingly common and can be extremely difficult to treat with existing antimicrobials, so there is an urgent need for novel control strategies.

Our work aims to inform enhanced genomic surveillance, improved infection control strategies, and design of novel vaccines targeting Klebsiella species.
